Chancellor George Osborne unveiled the much anticipated coalition government spending review on 20 October 2010, when he announced public spending cuts of £83 billion to be implemented between 2010 and 2015. Furthermore, he announced tax increases of £29 billion over the same period.

In light of severe government spending cuts, Serco, which carries out a host of government contracts running prisons, schools and nuclear facilities wrote to its biggest 193 suppliers to demand a 2.5 percent retrospective cash rebate on contracts held within the 2010 calendar year.

The contract, to provide analytical, technical and programmatic support for depot maintenance management oversight problems, is valued at approximately $14 million over two years, one base year and one option period.
