The leading supplier of in-vehicle technology, Trimble MRM, has positioned itself as a pioneer in the telematics market by picking up a prestigious award and receiving a further brace of nominations. The company’s headquarters, which is based in the UK, won the telematics supplier of the year award at the 2010 Fleet Van Awards.

Trimble MRM, which supplies corporate in-vehicle telematics technology, said in a statement that fleet drivers across the UK are being sent on money-wasting, fuel-squandering journeys due to inadequate telematics equipment. The company surveyed 300 fleet managers and found that 80 percent of those believe using fuel more economically is their biggest challenge.

Trimble, which acquired Punch Telematix after it made a cash bid worth around 13.5 million euros, or £12 million, for the company, is looking to grow its European business now. The company wants to offer a full solution set to both light commercial vehicle (LCV) and heavy goods vehicle (HGV) market across Europe.

Trimble has announced that British Gas, one of the world's leading energy companies, will be implementing its GeoManager solution across its Smart Metering fleet.

Yeoman, the MD of the telematics and in-vehicle technology company, added that fleet drivers should be acknowledged for their green driving with bonuses.

The calls come as tracking firm Minorplanet narrowly avoided a wind-up order from HM Revenue & Customs for debts of two million pounds. Fleet customers believe this latest development only serves to highlight the confidence crisis facing the tracking industry.
